Fishing Report - 01/19/07

Hello from the tropics,

The dry season has defiantly hit the Pacific coast of Panama with offshore winds and not a rain drop in over three weeks! Joining Pesca Panama this week was returning guest Hobie Lowell and his father Harry, David Iannone, Jerome Reynaert, Daniel Read, Steve Dinkel, Ross Hooker and first time guest Mark Firing.

With the weeks focus primarily offshore the crew spent most of the week plying the waters off of Montuosa, Hannible Bank and Jicaron Island! Although the offshore bite was far from being red hot the crew did manage to land some good fish! Fishing on Macho's boat with Harry, Mark started off on a good note when on the second day he released a 300 pound class Black Marlin and a 100 pound Sail fish! First Boat out and last boat in Steve, and Jerome were fishing with Captain Lucho when the hooked a monster Tuna on Top-water spinning gear. Although the crew saw the Tuna several times they were never able to bring the fish within gaff range and after a grueling 5 ∏ hour battle and the sun setting the boys decided to push the drag up even more, unfortunately to no avail, parting the 80 lb spectra. What a fight!!! Fishing with Tommy and Tatain on the third day, Hobie did have some good luck on the Tuna and made quick work of a 170 pounder!!! The crew also saw a few Sail fish landing as many 3 a day. The Dorado numbers for the week were fair landing 2 or three a day, but the fish were running as large as 50 pounds!

Although the focus for the week was offshore the guys did take the time to test the inshore waters, and had some great success! Landing up to 5 Cubera in an afternoon, Roosterfish, Jacks the inshore bite was defiantly on!!! Fishing with Captain Chicho David had the Rooster of the week estimated at 65 pounds!!!

Thanks for another great week in Panama! We look forward to seeing you all in April.

Keep Casting,
Travis
