Fishing Report - 02/16/07
Hello from the tropics,
A hand full of big Tuna, the biggest Marlin of the season and some great inshore fishing filled the week with action at Pesca Panama. Joining us this week was returning guest Gary, Dennis and Mike Klum. We also welcomed returning guest Jim Czywczynski, Jim Butterworth and Bill Boteler. The new guest list included: Scott Rolfs, Jim’s son Jimmy, Dennis’s son Chad and team “Fearsome foursome” Patrick Mclrarney, Pat’s son Tim, Ken Lynch and Jeff Varen.
Two days into the game and Team Fearsome foursome, fishing with Captain Lucho pinned into a Marlin right out of the gate! With Tim on the rod the fish began to jump in the distance, Lucho initially estimates the fish at 400 pounds “within an hour we should have the fish” Lucho announced! After a 4 1/2 hour grueling battle with the Marlin still aggressively fighting and jumping Tim reluctantly passes the rod to Ken. With “Cheerleaders”, Pat and Jeff, “coaching” the fresh angler on, Ken went to work on the monster Marlin. Over an hour on the rod, some hot shot boat driving by Captain Lucho and Ken had the big girl within range to grab the leader. Five hours and forty minutes had passed since the Marlin was first hooked and crewman Chi Chi reached for the leader and took his first wrap... The huge fish once again surged and with a parted leader the exhausted anglers had a clean release and the Marlin swam away uninjured! Seeing the fish boat-side everyone onboard realized that Luchos initial 'guesstimation' on the size of the fish was grossly underestimated. 650 pounds was Captain Lucho’s conservative final call. Congratulations team fearsome foursome on a great fish, and fight of a lifetime!!!!
Fishing with Captain Bartolo this week seemed to be “guaranteed Tuna”! Chad, fishing with Bartolo, had his first experience with brute strength of Yellowfin Tuna when he landed the largest Tuna of the week weighting in at 200lbs. Gary and Dennis also landed two nice size Tuna weighing in at 150 and 90 pounds respectively! Tuna action on the poppers was hot and cold this week, but the guys did manage to land up to 15 “small” Tuna a day to 35lbs on top-water casting! Although the Sailfish seem to be plentiful this week (lots of jumpers), this group landed a fair number of Sails, up to 3 per boat per day!
Jim Butterworth, Bill and Scott spent most of the week plying the near shore waters casting poppers, bottom fishing and live bait fishing with great success! 5 Big Amberjack, 14 Roosters, Snook, Jacks and a hand full of Cubera kept the crew busy throughout the week! Great job guys!!! Jim and Jimmy had also had some great action on Cuberas with Jimmy landing 3 on top-water in one afternoon!
Thanks for a great week guys we look forward to seeing you all again next time!
Keep Casting
