Fishing Report - 03/03/07
Greetings from Pesca Panama,
We were delighted to welcome back a few of our regular guests this week including Mike Augate, Tom Rousseau, Paul Diverstein, Ted Merletti, and George Babikan. Joining them were first time Pesca Panama fisherman Gary Rose, John Wnlkowski, Rudy Babikan, Mike Dicrystal, Paul Montney, and Robert Wyatt. We were very happy to welcome everyone down to Panama for what turned out to be an outstanding week of fishing.
The week started off with a bang when Mike Dicrystal; who was fishing with Captain Lucho, hooked into a 300 lb Black Marlin as well as a couple of Sail Fish at Mountousa. That set the stage for what turned out to be a well rounded week. Not to be outdone Don Olen and George Babikan hooked into a 400 lb Blue Marlin while fishing offshore Jicaron. George, Don, and Rudy also got to experience great topwater Tuna action landing up to 15 fish a day ranging from 20 to 40 pounds.
The inshore fishing was very consistent this week with the fish willing to rise on the topwater and eat the jig. Gary, John, and Ted; who were fishing with Captain Ben, decided to concentrate most of there efforts tossing poppers and retrieving jigs in search of anything that lurks along the reefs. Their hard work was rewarded with explosive Cubera strikes and they topped it off with two Roosterfish on day five and two more Roosterfish on the last day. A few of the high notes for the week were; Rudy's 60 lb Roosterfish caught on topwater, John Wnlkowski's 45 lb Cubera on jig, Gary's 40 lb Broomtail on Jig, and Mike's 45 lb Cubera on topwater.
The guys also came armed with flies this week to see what they could tempt into eating the feathers. There was many memorable evenings spent in the Snook hole searching for the elusive Pacific Black Snook with the top day being 6 fish landed at last light. To go along with the Snook the guys also landed Mangrove Snappers and Jack Crevalle to make for action packed evenings.
Thank you guys for a very enjoyable week here at Coiba!
