Fishing Report - 12/24/06

Hello from the Tropics,

Calm seas and clear skies greeted this weeks guest fishing with Pesca Panama. Returning guest and friends Doyle Ohnemus, Vincent McElmurry, Mike Dire, Jeff Ashcroft, Peter (Tex) Collins, Ryan (Flaco) Bessette, Alex (Moose) Olsen and Dan (Rooster) Leavens joined Pesca Panama this week. Also joining us was Pesca Panama first time guest, Fischer Dominique, and Paul Benoit.

The week started off well for Paul and Fischer, this casting and jigging team worked over the Ladrones Island area landing a good size Broomtail Grouper and a couple of Cubrea on jigs. The team continued to have good success through the week, landing up to 7 Cubera a day on top-water and dozens of fish on jigs including a 55 pound Amberjack!

Alaskan anglers Doyle and Vince also had great success landing up to 10 Cubera a day. Fishing with Captain Lucho on their best day the Alaskan crew had 3 Cubera over 50 pounds and one fish tipping the scales at 62 pounds!!! Great job guys!

Lots of laughs, "half days on the water" and great fishing, filled the week for Tex, Flaco, Moose and Rooster. On their second day out the boys hit a great Dorado bite and managed to land a couple of these feisty fish on flies! Tex had a great week landing a 15 pound Snook on top-water on the fourth day and a 55 plus pound Rooster on the fifth day! The Moose man managed to land his first Rooster on top-water. Moose and Rooster also had a great morning inshore fishing landing over 30 small snook on the fly! Flaco had a great week working over his new 12 weight fly rod landing Blue Jacks and a nice Dorado!

Although Mike and Jeff arrived late due to bad weather in the states they ended up having an exciting week here in Panama. Dorado, Sailfish and a few inshore fish filled their week with action, but the week's real surprise came on the last day. Fishing near shore with live bait Mike hooked into a monster Rooster Fish! After a twenty minute battle on light gear the Rooster was subdued and brought aboard for a photo. Pegging the 60 pound scale, we estimated the fish at 65 pounds! Great job Mike!!!

It has been another great week and a spectacular year at Pesca Panama! We would like to thank all of our returning anglers and welcome all new guest! Have a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year.
